Contains 26 issues of Child's World (American Sunday School Union): vol. 2:1, 3-19, 21-24 Jan.-Dec. 1863, 1:3 Feb. 1862, 1:17 Sept. 1862, 1:23-24 Dec. 1862; 11 issues of The Child's Paper (American Tract Society): vol. 13:1-10, 12 Jan.-Oct., Dec. 1864; and 8 issues of The Child at Home (American Tract Society): vol. 5:1-4, 8-11 Jan.-April, Aug.-Nov. 1864. Each has 4 pages with fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and illustrations, many of which have been nicely hand-colored by a former owner. The two American Tract Society publications have lyrics and music on the last page of each issue, usually a hymn. Published during the American Civil War, the few reflections of that event include references to schools for freed slave children; a discussion of the Fourth of July in the context of the war; and depictions of Freedmen's Village at Arlington Heights, Va., and a soldiers' hospital. In Good- Condition: edges rubbed; some loss of leather on spine; front board loose; light soiling and foxing throughout; Jan. 1863 issue of Child's World and Aug. 1864 issue of The Child at Home are heavily stained; a few small closed tears from edges.
