Original green publisher's cloth with gilt-stamped spine title and front cover signature of author. This is the second state of the binding noted by BAL 2180, in which the publisher's name on the spine lacks the ampersand. No dust jacket. The page facing the half title contains a publisher's advertisement for other works by John Burroughs. Former owner's name on front free endpaper, dated 1921. Final two leaves are unopened. One of many works by American author John Burroughs (1837-1921), whose essays on nature helped build the early conservation movement in the United States. In Very Good- Condition: cover is slightly rubbed and soiled; corners are rubbed; ends of spine are fraying; spine is sunned; a couple of old ink marginalia; minor marginal soiling on a few pages; four leaves opened carelessly; otherwise pages are clean and tight.
