Front fixed endpaper bears engraved bookplate of George Henry Hely Hutchinson with the Hutchinson family crest. Pierre-Joseph Dumont had the misfortune to be on a French ship that went down off the coast of Africa near Algiers in 1782. Those, like himself, who survived were captured and made slaves.
