Front cover and title page are identical with addition of border on cover. The Reverend Joseph Abbott (1808-1867) was born in Philadelphia and in 1835 married Margaret Ann Ross Tilton (1815-1885). He served in the First Presbyterian Church of Newburyport, Mass., and then Dane Street Church of Beverly, Mass. (Congregational), from 1830 until 1865. This biographical essay focuses on his work as a minister and contains Abbott's own reflections on his career as well as comments by the Reverend Milton P. Braman and others. In Good Condition: front wrapper detached but present; wrapper is stained and edges are creased and chipped with loss at corners; archival repairs at top and bottom edges of front wrapper; foxing throughout; pages are otherwise clean and tight.
