Edinburgh: Apollo Press, 1777. Hardcover. "From the royal quarto edition of 1720." 3 vols.: frontispiece portrait, 3 added engraved title pages; 13 cm. 18mo. Half black morocco (possibly dark blue originally) with marbled paper over boards. Gilt-tooled spine titles and volume numbers: Bell's Poets Gay I [-III], between gilt double rules. All page edges yellow. The added engraved title pages identify this set as part of the series Poets of Great Britain Complete from Chaucer to Churchill (Bell's Edition). Each added engraved title page has a different title vignette. The plates, engraved by Grignion after Edwards, were printed in September and October 1777. Each front fixed endpaper bears engraved armorial bookplate of Charles Grantham Esq., with the motto "Honore et Amore." In Very Good Condition: edges rubbed; slight loss of leather at head of vols 1 and 3; small scrape on front board of vol. 1; pages are clean and bright. A solid and attractive set. Very Good.
