Contains instructions for various gymnastic activies and games, illustrated with drawings of boys performing the motions. By 1900 the author, Horace Butterworth, had become manager of the University of Chicago's football team. He was strongly opposed to the creation of professional football teams. In 1903 and 1904 he was director of athletics at Northwestern University and in 1907 he coached Temple University's football team to a 4-and-2 record. In Good- Condition: cover is somewhat stained and soiled; ends of spine and corners are rubbed and frayed; hinges are weak; front free endpaper lacking; lower corner of pp. 11-12 lacking without loss of text; pencil notations on back of title page and on p. 61; otherwise clean and tight.
