The author, Dermot Freyer, rejected James Joyce's Dubliners when Joyce submitted it to Elkin Mathews for publication (14 other publishers also rejected Dubliners before it was finally published in 1914). Freyer was the author of several published collections of poems and short stories. The title story of this volume is a supernatural story about a party at night on an English river.
