All page edges marbled; marbled endpapers. Brown ribbon bookmark (separated from binding). The frontispiece portrait of Admiral Viscount Exmouth was engraved by W. Finden from a painting by W. Owen. The life of Admiral Edward Pellew, 1st Viscount Exmouth (1757-1833), a British naval officer who fought during the American Revolution (when he was taken prisoner at Saratoga), the French Revolutionary wars, and the Napoleonic wars. He is familiar to fans of C. S. Forester's Captain Horation Hornblower series.
