London. 2 volumes: [2], 371, [1] p.; 342 p., 1 leaf of a plate; 19 cm. Contemporary maroon half polished calf with marbled paper over boards. Red leather spine labels in the center of each spine with gilt-tooled title and volume number; gilt-tooled decoration above and below label and at spine ends. The plate is View of Arnmore drawn by Frances Vans; J.H. sc. (Edinburgh: Oliphant, 1830). Small section cut out of each title page (4.5 x 1.5 cm.) and 1-cm. strip along top edge of vol. 1 title page removed, presumably removing former owner's names; all of the printed text is present. The Scottish author, Grace Kennedy (1782-1825) was the fourth daughter of Robert Kennedy of Pinmore, county Ayr, and Robina, daughter of John Vans Agnew, of Barnbarrow, county Galloway. The engravings that illustrate her works were taken from her own drawings. Dunallan was the last published of her novels but was written first. In Very Good Condition: binding is rubbed; vol. 1 front free endpaper lacking; (blank?) leaf preceding vol. 2 title page lacking; small excision in each title page, as described above, without loss of type; scattered foxing; otherwise clean and tight.
