Title page printed in red and black; title vignette (printer's emblem?). Gift inscription from the author and his wife, Eva Watson-Schütze, to Westray and Laura Ladd, Christmas, 1904. Westray Ladd (1863-1909) was a Philadelphia architect; Laura D. Stroud Ladd (1863-1943) was a painter. The author, Martin Schütze (1867-1950), taught in the Department of Germanic Languages and Literature at the University of Chicago. In 1901 he married Eva Lawrence Watson (1867-1935), a painter and photographer; with Alfred Stieglitz and others she founded the Photo-Secession. The Schützes helped to establish an art colony at Woodstock, N.Y. in 1902. In Very Good+ Condition: spine and corners are rubbed, with some loss to spine label; head of spine slightly chipped; minor loss to edges of cover label; slight finger soiling on a few pages; otherwise clean and tight.
