Original black leather with gilt-stamped spine title and decoration; boards have elaborate blind-stamped borders. Gilt-stamped cover title "Religous Album." Gilt-stamped front cover illustration of Jesus with the woman at the well; gilt-stamped back cover illustration of woman with a sheaf of wheat (based on the title vignette). All page edges gilt. No date of publication. The publisher, J.C. Riker, is shown at 129 Fulton Street. John C. Riker published at 129 Fulton St., New York, from 1844 to 1856. The earliest inscription in the book is dated 1858. The mezzotint plates are captioned: The Shepherds, "Fear Not It Is I," The Dark Valley, Overthrow of Pharoah, and Moses on Mt. Horeb. The owner of the album was Mattie Pierson, whose name appears in the first inscription, an acrostic poem spelling out her name. The inscriptions include several poems by J.B. Webster (Bridgeton, N.J., 1862) and one by Kale (Bridgeton, 1858). In Very Good- Condition: ends of spne and corners rubbed, with minor loss at tail; lacking front free endpaper; margins of plates are heavily foxed; otherwise clean and tight. Very Good -.
