Paperback with continuous cover design by Rockwell Kent; illustrated endpapers also designed by Kent. The Rockwell Kent-designed emblem of Charles Boni Paper Books on the title page. This title was the fifth in the strikingly designed series of modern works in paperback called Charles Boni Paper Books, begun in 1929. In 1930, after 16 titles had been issued, the subscription requirement was dropped and it was renamed Bonibooks, published by Albert and Charles Boni. Having sent this examination of American economic growth from 1922 to 1929 to the printer just before the stock market crash of October 1929, the author added some reflections on that event in the introduction. He concluded that the crash did not substantially impact his observations. "My main concern has been to find out what this period of alleged prosperity has meant to the man on the street, and to his famly."
