Both boards have gilt-stamped center illustration of urn with flowers and birds, and decorative blind-stamped borders. All page edges gilt. No year of publication. Page [8] states that The Pictorial Pilgrim's Progress will be given as a premium to subscribers of the Parlor Annual, and Christian Family Magazine for 3 years after Sept. 1844, indicating that this was published in 1843 or 1844. Gift inscription dated 1941 on back of first plate. Includes an article about Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia by Mrs. C.R. Williams; Alice, A Story of Our Village by Sarah Towne Martyn; The Seed-Time, or Emma in the Nursery by Maria Jane McIntosh; and contributions by the Rev. Samuel Irenaeus Prime, Lydia Maria Child, Lydia H. Sigourney, Emma C. Embury, Henry M. Parsons, Caroline Gilman, Abby B. Whelpley, Anna L. Snelling, and Isabella O. Shaw. Includes 12 engraved plates, including a portrait of the Rev. John Summerfield, and 12 leaves of hand-colored plates (primarily botanical). On pp. 407-410 the editor, the Rev. Daniel Newell, explains that his two magazines, The Parlor Annual and Christian Family Magazine would be merged. The 12 issues bound together here are the entire run of The Youth's Parlor Annual. In Very Good- Condition: edges are rubbed with minor loss of cloth at ends of spine and along front joint; cover lightly soiled; lacking front free endpaper; one plate detached but present with chipped fore-edge; engraved plate of Amy Woodleigh has light pencilled decoration around the engraving, not touching it; browning of pages throughout; occasional foxing; otherwise clean and tight.
