Gilt-stamped coat-of-arms of Antwerp on front board; blind-stamped borders and corners on both boards. All page edges gilt. Purple floral endpapers. Prize bookplate on front free endpaper for Marie Duxrud from École de Demoiselles in Antwerp, dated 1894. Marie Duxrud (1881-1954) was a soprano from Norway; she married Josef Stransky (1872-1936), who conducted the New York Philharmonic from 1911 to 1923. He later became an art dealer and was a partner in E. Gimpel & Wildenstein in New York City. The author, Jules Nicolas Théodore Cahu (1854-1928), was a French writer, an officer in the French cavalry, and the chief of staff of General Boulanger; he wrote biographical journalism and science fiction, sometimes under the pen name of Théo-Critt. Scarce. In Very Good Condition: head of spine slightly rubbed; hinges are weak; slight browning along pages edges; otherwise clean and tight. Very Good. Item #003515
