Chips was a short-lived literary publication that appeared monthly at first and then weekly, from March 1895 to June 1896. This issue contains: a drawing of Hamlin Garland by Gardner C. Teall -- The Monks by James Knapp Reeve -- The Execution by Will M. Clemens -- The Island of Wine by Philip Verrill Mighels with an illustration by the author -- The Lullaby by C.F. Lester -- Midwinter: The Slope of the Hill drawn by Homer E. Keyes -- The Worm Turneth by Harry Saint-Maur -- Forgiveness [a poem] by Clinton Scollard -- Song [a poem] by Sophia M.A. Hensley. Includes advertisements. The Monks is an amusing short short story by James Knapp Reeve (1856-1933), the author of various guides for the would-be author, and The Three Richard Whalens (1897), an early science fiction novel of the "lost race" genre. Another contributor, Philip Verrill Mighels (1869-1911), also published several works of science fiction.
