Inscribed on front free endpaper: "Miss Bayard. Boston, 1886." With: calling card of Dr. Clarence J. Blake. This was evidently a present to Miss Bayard of Boston from Dr. Clarence J. Blake (1843-1919), professor of otology at Harvard Medical School, who worked with Alexander Graham Bell to develop the ear phoautograph, a tool to transcribe speech sounds to help the deaf perfect their speech. In Very Good Condition: ends of spine slightly frayed; spine label rubbed and faded; cloth is lightly soiled; pages are clean and crisp. Very Good. Item #003777
