This is one of a limited edition of 100 copies printed by hand on Stevens-Nelson paper at the Golden Hind Press in July 1950. "For private distribution only." Wendell Phillips Stafford (1861-1953) was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives in 1892 and a judge on the Supreme Court of Vermont from 1900 to 1904, when he was appointed to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia by President Theodore Roosevelt. He served in the latter post until retirement in 1931. He was also a published poet, the author of several books of poetry published in the beginning of the 20th century. Nearly 50 years later, near the end of his life, this collection of Stafford's poems about a lost love was printed by Arthur Rushmore at his Golden Hind Press, also near the end of Rushmore's life.
