Embossed Dickinson College Library stamp at foot of title page. Call number in white at tail of spine. Four-digit number stamped at foot of p. [iii]. No other marks of former library ownership. Robert Ralston, Jr. (1795-1858), who graduated from Dickinson College in 1814, was a member of the successful mercantile family of Philadelphia. Possibly the first American edition; the priority of the three editions has not been established. In Good- Condition: lacking leather from upper third of spine and lower corner of front board; front joint separated; pencilled inscription along lower edge of p. 13; light foxing on title page and few following pages; otherwise pages are clean and tight.
