Stated First Edition. Andre Norton was the pseudonym of American writer Alice Mary Norton (1912-2005); she also published under the names Andrew North and Allen Weston. She was the first woman to be named Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, the first to be a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America Grand Master, and the first inducted by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame. She was also a founder of the Swordsmen and Sorcerers' Guild of America (SAGA). In Iron Cage, she "points out the foolish and even dangerous distinctions we draw between humans and animals."
