Each page printed within ruled borders and floral corners. First edition. The author of this poem satirizing the authors and editors of the ante-bellum American literary scene was Augustine Joseph Hickey Duganne (1823-1884). A different version of the work was included in his Poetical Works (Philadelphia, 1855). During the American Civil War he helped to raise the 176th New York Volunteers and was a prisoner of the Confederate States in 1863 and 1864. In addition to work as a journalist and a poet, he wrote several of Beadle's Dime Novels. In Very Good+ Condition: ends of spine lightly rubbed; light foxing throughout; otherwise clean and tight.
