Contemporary half polished calf with five spine compartments between raised bands. Gilt-tooled title in second compartment and volume number and year in fourth compartment. Marbled paper over boards. Inscription on front free endpaper: "W.M. Stine 5-15-92." "0727" stamped at lower edge of title page. "Storage" stamped in red on fixed endpapers. Former owner Wilbur Morris Stine (1863-1934), with degrees from Dickinson College and Ohio University, taught physics and engineering at Ohio University from 1886 to 1893, electricity and electrical engineering at Armour Institute from 1893 to 1898, and engineering at Swarthmore College from 1898 to 1906. He also published poetry and fiction. Contents include: The Proto-Helvetes, or Lake-Dwellers of Switzerland by Ada M. Trotter -- Aluminium by George L. Burditt -- a review of Alfred Russel Wallace's Darwinism by Katharine B. Claypole. In Very Good Condition: leather is rubbed; front board is scraped; pages are clean and tight. Very Good.
