Bookplate of former owner, Margaret Green, on both fixed endpapers. Gabrielle Roy (1909-1983) was a French Canadian author whose first novel, Bonheur d'Occasion, published in 1945, was set in the Montreal working-class neighborhood Saint-Henri. Its realistic depiction of the French Canadian working class is credited with helping to inspire Quebec's Quiet Revolution in the 1960s. This English-language edition won the 1947 Governor General's Award and the Royal Society of Canada's Lorne Pierce Medal.
