Grey cloth with black spine title, gilt-stamped cover title, black-stamped decorative border on front cover and illustration on back cover. Preface signed: Charles W. Hubner. Without music. No publication information, which has been taken from WorldCat records. Charles W. Hubner (1835-1929) served in the Conferate army as a major; after the war he was on the editorial staff of the Atlanta Constitution and published several books of poetry. Former owner's name on back fixed endpaper upside down: Rev. E.R. Carswell. Unknown whether this was the father or the son of the same name, both active in the Baptist Church in South Carolina. In pencil on front fixed endpaper: Carswell Institute. In Good Condition: ends of spine and upper corners are frayed; cover is slightly soiled; front free endpaper detached but present; lacking part of back free endpaper; front hinge cracked; pages are clean.
