Edwin Howland Blashfield (1848-1936) was an important American bookplate designer in the late 19th century, before becoming better known as a painter and muralist. The former owner, Theodore Woodman Gore (1847-1921), was a marine adjuster and book collector. A former owner tipped in on the front free endpaper verso a color map of Holland by W. & R. Chambers, London. A list of other works by Havard is on the verso of the half title page. Title page printed in red and black. In Very Good Condition: edges rubbed; 2 tears of 1 cm. at head of spine without loss; light foxing on text pages only; otherwise, pages and plates are clean and bright. Very Good. Item #004308
