1856. Letter, dated Dec. 10, 1856, to John F. Heinitsh announcing the formation of H.R. Wood & Co., manufacturers of varnishes and japans, and asking for referrals in Lancaster, Pa. The partners in H.R. Wood & Co., Philadelphia, were Thomas C. Percival, Edward W. Robinson, and Horace R. Wood. The document consists of 1 sheet folded to form 2 leaves. The first leaf is printed containing the announcement of the establishment of H.R. Wood & Co. and a catalog of products, with the handwritten additions of the date, recipient, and prices of products. The second leaf contains the handwritten letter to Heinitsh from Percival. John Frederick Heinitsh ran a store in Lancaster for many years. His uncle Anton Frederick, Baron von Heinitz, was an engineer and a member of the cabinet of the King of Prussia. In 1857, H.R. Wood & Co. was considered one of four principal manufacturers of varnish in Philadelphia. In Very Good Condition: lightly soiled and creased; otherwise, clean and intact. Very Good. Item #004333
