Franco American Food Co. trade cards (2)

New York: Franco American Food Co., 1889. 2 trade cards, each 7.5 x 11 cm. Each has a chromolithographed illustration on a gilt background on one side, with "Franco American Food Co. 101 Warren St. N.Y." in the upper left-hand corner. The illustrations portray child chefs in French clothing having "amusing" accidents in the kitchen, with captions in French. They were produced by J. Ottmann Lith., N.Y. The reverse advertises Franco American Food Co.'s French soups, listing 17 varieties available in glass or cans, and noting that they are served on all Pullman and B.&O. buffet cars. The Franco-American Food Company was founded by French immigrant Alphonse Biardot, who with his sons, Octave and Ernest, opened a commercial kitchen in Jersey City, N.J., in 1887, selling prepared French soup. The trade cards are undated, but the company moved to 101 Warren St. in 1889; it was acquired by Campbell's in 1921. In Very Good- Condition: each card has one vertical crease down the left side of the illustration; colors are bright; both sides are clean. Very Good -. Item #004611
