Contemporary half calf with marbled paper over boards. Five spine compartments between raised bands; red leather label in second compartment with gilt-tooled title: Scott's Poetical Works. Green leather label in fourth compartment with gilt-tooled volume number and title: Minstrelsy. Gilt-tooled decoration in remaining compartments. All page edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. The frontispiece is a view based on a painting by J.M.W. Turner. This volume contains Part II -- Romantic Ballads of Minstrelsy on the Scottish Border: Consisting of Historical and Romantic Ballads collected in the Southern Counties of Scotland; with a few of modern date, founded upon local tradition.
