Carlo Pellegrini (1839-1889), was a caricaturist for Vanity Fair from 1869 to his death in 1889, signing his works "Ape." William Cavendish, 7th Duke of Devonshire (1808-1891), was Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire from 1857 to 1891 and of Derbyshire from 1858 to 1891. From 1861 to his death he served as Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, where he endowed the Cavendish Professorship of Physics and paid for the erection of the Cavendish Laboratory.
