First edition of the English translation and abridgement of Mémoires pour Servir à l'Histoire de Madame de Maintenon by Laurent Angliviel de La Beaumelle (1726-1773). The subject of this biography, Françoise d'Aubigné, Marquise de Maintenon (1635–1719), was the second wife of King Louis XIV of France. In 1684 she established a school for girls from poorer noble families, the Maison Royale de Saint-Louis.
