Dark green ribbon-grain cloth with gilt-stamped spine title: Dean Hoffman; blind-stamped decoration on both boards. Top page edges gilt. Plain light green dustjackets with dark green spine title reproducing that on bindings. With original plain grey slipcase. Continuously paginated. One of a limited edition of 500 copies. Eugene Augustus Hoffman (1829-1902) led Episcopal churches in Elizabeth and Burlington, N.J., Brooklyn, and Philadelphia before his appointment in 1879 as dean of the General Theological Seminary in New York; he led that institution until his death in 1902. Among his gifts to the school was a Gutenberg Bible. In Near Fine Condition: light foxing along edges of plates; otherwise, the books and dust jackets are clean and bright.
