Black leather spine label with gilt-tooled title: Macculloch on Malaria. Bookplate on front fixed endpaper of C.W. Rodecker, M.D. Written on front free endpaper: "Book No. 5 Private Library C.W. Rodecker." The same owner's name is also written faintly on the title page and the back fixed endpaper. Above the bookplate on the front fixed endpaper is an engraved prescription form from Johns & Brophy, druggists & apothecaries, Nokomis, Ill., with a handwritten prescription that includes quinine. C.W. Rodecker was a doctor and proprietor of the Owl Pharmacy in Wonewoc, Wisconsin, in the 1890s. In 1920 he was appointed to the state board of medical examiners and living in Holcombe, Wis. The 1827 English edition of this work by John Macculloch (1773-1835) was the first used of the term "malaria" in a scientific publication. Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: edges are rubbed; several small scrapes; handwritten number from the former owner's library in white on spine; back fixed endpaper is scraped; part of back free endpaper has been removed; paper is browning but clean and tight.
