Dr. Ray Vaughn Pierce (1840-1914) practiced medicine in Pennsylvania before moving in 1867 to Buffalo, where he began producing patent medicines, many containing opium. Not surprisingly, he opposed the passage of the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. Dr. Pierce's Clinic continued producing patent medicines after his death in 1914. This almanac consists primarily of advertisements and testimonials aimed at women, emphasizing that good health is essential for beauty and happiness. In Very Good- Condition: wrapper is partially separated along spine; a round hole at the head of the spine where the former owner hung it up; "Carmel" written on back wrapper; front wrapper is lightly soiled; otherwise, clean and tight.
