New Albany, Ind. Herman Knirihm, 1881. Cards. 2 trade cards with images printed in blue on a gilt background on one side and information about Lancashire Insurance of Manchester, England, on the other. Each of illustrations features a giant egg: one has a child in a stocking cap breaking through the shell; the other has a child dressed as an artist painting an egg-shaped container with a gold chain. The financial information on the reverse is dated June 30, 1881. Herman Knirihm (1827-1900) was a German immigrant who started in the insurance business in 1875; in 1894 he took his nephew into partnership as Knirihm & Bruns. In Good Condition: small scrape in lower corner of one card image; lightly creased; images are lightly soiled; corners on both backs are stained and scraped, presumably removed from an album; images are bright.
