Philadelphia: 1861. Hardcover. 16 x 10 cm. Mid-19th-century calf; black spine label with gilt-tooled title "Receipts. Blind-rolled decorative border on each board. All page edges black. Pages are ruled portrait-length. The first 2 pages contain records of payments from Samuel Bettle Jr. (1774-1861) to family members and the following 4 contain payments related to the settlement of Samuel Bettle's estate after his death in April 1861. Samuel Bettle was a member of a Quaker family in Philadelphia. Several pages following that contain pencilled records of the standings for the 8 National League teams as of Aug. 5, 1904, as well as a drawing of a baseball field and the scores of several Phillies games against Boston and Cincinnati. The remainder of the notebook is blank. In Good+ Condition: leather torn at tail of spine; gilt lacking from spine label; pages removed at back of notebook, leaving back hinge weak; otherwise, clean and solid. Good +. Item #005533
