Stamped at lower edge of first page and last page: "Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology, Bryn Mawr College." Former owner's name at upper edge of first page: M.H. Swindler. Mary Hamilton Swindler (1884-1967) was the author of Ancient Painting (1930) and taught archaeology and classics at Bryn Mawr College. Pericle Ducati (1880-1944) in 1920 was appointed classical archaeological history professor at the University of Bologna; he was dean of the faculty of arts from 1923 to 1929 and in 1943 and 1944; he was also a member of the High Council for Antiquities and Fine Arts of Italy. Ducati collaborated with the fascist government of Benito Mussolini, publishing Origine e Attributi del Fascio Littorio in 1927 and serving as president of the Fascist Culture Institute of Italy. In 1944 he was ambushed outside his home by Italian partisans, leading to his death two months later. In Good Condition: first page and last page scraped along spine and partially separated; partial remains of library identification at head of spine on first page; stamped at lower edge as noted; chipping along fore-edge of several pages; otherwise, clean and solid.
