Houghton -- the advertisement for The Water-Cure Journal -- a publisher's catalog. The author, the Rev. Roland Stebbins Houghton (1824-1876), was a friend of Edgar Allan Poe, who dedicated two poems to Houghton's wife, Marie Louise Shew Houghton. She had previously been married to Dr. Joel T. Shew (1816-1855), an early advocate of hydropathy in the United States.
