Disbound from a volume stamped "Withdrawn from A.P.S." on a preliminary blank page and bearing an inscription indicating that it had been given to the American Philosophical Society by Dr. John Bell. John Bell (1796-1872) received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1817. He practiced medicine in Philadelphia, lectured at the Philadelphia Medical Institute, and was a member of the American Philosophical Society. The author, Peter Mere Latham (1789-1875), was an English physician and medical educator. He delivered these lecture at St. Bartholomew's Hospital.
