Contemporary half calf with marbled paper over boards. Leather spine labels with gilt-tooled title "Museum of Foreign Literature" and volume information. Former owner's name at head of three title pages: Geo. Metzger. Consists of the first issues of this magazine (Jan., Feb., March, and April 1843), formed by Eliakim Littell (1797-1870) when he combined his The Museum of Foreign Literature, Science, and Art with the American Eclectic. One year later he sold it to Leavitt, Trow and Co. In Fair+ Condition: both boards are detached but present; lacking some leather from spine; front free endpaper is detached but present; lacking plate from March issue?; pp. 287-88 detached but present with soiling along fore-edge and lower edge; text block is otherwise solid; foxing; otherwise, clean.
