Warsaw, N.Y. s.n., 1901. 1 photograph (12.3 x 17.5 cm.) on a mat (21 x 25 cm.). Inscribed on the back: "Senator Lester Hayden Humphrey Warsaw N.Y. Gov Higgins in Executive Chamber Albany 1901." Lester Hayden Humphrey (1850-1902), of Warsaw, N.Y., was Vice President of the Wyoming County National Bank from 1873 to 1888 and became president of the bank in 1890. He was also involved in the salt industry in New York state and in Hutchinson, Ks. He was a member of the New York state senate from 1896 until his death in 1902. Frank Wayland Higgins (1856-1907) served in the New York Senate from 1894 until 1902, when he was elected lieutenant governor of the state. In 1903 he was elected the 35th governor of New York. Although he is described as "Governor" in the inscription, this was taken in 1901, when both men were serving in the N.Y. State Senate. Humphrey died before Higgins became governor. In Very Good Condition: photograph is somwhat faded, but clean and intact; mat is lightly soiled, with small stain along right-hand edge; crease in mat along left-hand edge; corner rubbed. Very Good.
