Frontispiece is color illustration tipped on. Each page has elaborate blue border and each selection has additional blue decoration or illustration. Although the title page and cover imply that the contents are by Robert Browning, the selections are by Robert Browning, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Holmes, David Starr Jordan, Goethe, Mary Higman, James Russell Lowell, Robert Smith, and Ralph Waldo Trine. Undated birthday gift inscription from Nellie on blank page following front endpapers; Nellie also wrote an additional inscription on the blank verso of a later page.
