The image shows Gretchen, from Faust, confessing to a priest as a man listens in the shadows behind her. The German artist, Andreas Lochner (1824-1855), painted two scenes from Goethe's Faust before his untimely death in 1855. It was engraved by German engraver Christian Julius Gustav Planer (1818-1873). In Very Good- Condition: light foxing on margins; upper edge lightly creased; image is clean and bright. Very Good -.
