Vol. 4 only: xii, 568 p., 1 folded map of the world according to Hecataeus; 22 cm. 19th-century polished calf with six spine compartments between raised bands. Leather labels in second and third compartments with gilt-tooled title "Literature of Ancient Greece" and volume number. Gilt-tooled decoration in remaining compartments; double gilt-ruled border on each board, which have gilt-tooled coat-of-arms of Winchester College in the center with motto "Manners makyth Man." Boards have gilt-decorated edges; all page edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Engraved bookplate on front fixed endpaper with image of an angel overpowering a devil, reading "69, Kingsgate St. House Library." Moberly's House, at 69 Kingsgate St., is one of the oldest boarding houses at Winchester College. Gift inscription to C. W. Musgrave Burton on blank page following front endpapers dated Christmas 1956. This volume covers Greek prose and historians of the period, before focusing on Herodotus. In Very Good Condition: edges rubbed; loss at head of spine; faded along upper edge of front board; closed tear from one edge of map, which has tear with loss from center; otherwise, clean and tight.
