Contains a lengthy article supporting Jefferson in the upcoming choice by the House of Representatives between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr, who had received the the same number of electoral college votes for President. On Feb. 17, 1801, after 36 ballots, Jefferson became President and Burr Vice President. Advertisements for shipping; dry goods and coffee; real estate; books; a water-proofing system for shoes and boots patented by John I. Hawkins; a pianoforte "with the additional keys"; a concert by emigrant Jean-Baptiste Renaud de Chateaudun; prints of the Apotheosis of Washington; and rewards for the return of slaves including Marcus, one of the house servants at Mount Vernon.
