"Matthews & Warren, Stereotypers & Printers, Buffalo, N.Y." Inside front wrapper and both sides of back wrapper have advertisements for Steinway & Sons pianos and Carhart, Needham & Co.'s organs. Pages 1, 2, and 14-16 also contain Steinway & Sons advertisements; last page contains advertisement for the Florence reversible feed sewing machine. Contains the lyrics of the choruses and text of dialogues telling the story of the American Civil War. Written by Henry Morford (1823-1881), this dramatic depiction ends with the assasination of President Abraham Lincoln, the ascension of Andrew Johnson to the presidency, and a "Grand Tableau of Peace." A version of this first appeared in 1863, during the war. There are also several later, expanded editions of this work. This is the first edition published after the conclusion of the war and the assassination of Lincoln. Very scarce.
