Liebig Company's Extract of Beef [pop-up advertising card]

London: Liebig Extract of Beef Co., 1890. "Printed in Germany." One card (11 x 9 cm.), which opens to reveal a chromolithographed scene of gauchos and cattle. The front has an illustration of a bottle of Liebig extract of beef with text in red, blut, and brown and the facsimile signature of Liebig in blue. The back has a chromolithographed illustration of a gauch on a horse. No date of publication. Liebig Extract of Beef Company was established in 1865 in London, although the cattle used to produce the beef extract were raised in Uruguay. The company was sold and the name changed in 1924. The pop-up advertising card is less common than the card sets. In Fair Condition: dampstained along edges of outside and along one edge of the inside; lacking one front section of the pop-up; the right side of the pop-up is partially detached; colors are bright.
