Gilt-tooled spine title "Blackwood's Magazine" and decoration; blind-tooled decoration on spine. All page edges speckled black. Marbled endpapers. Engraved bookplate on front fixed endpaper: "Library of J. H. Forney, Mt. Idaho, Idaho. Read and Return." James Harvey Forney (1851-1937) moved to Mount Idaho (now Grangeville) after passing the bar in 1879. He served successively as territorial prosecuting attorney, district attorney for the Second Judicial District, and U.S. District Attorney. He was instrumental in the establishment of the University of Idaho and served on the board of regents. This volume contains fiction (including satire and horror), reviews and other nonfiction, and poetry, all published anonymously, as was typical of periodical publications at the time. Much of it was written by John Wilson, often under the pseudonym of Christopher North. In Good Condition: cover is rubbed; front joint separated; pages are slightly brown but clean and tight. Good.
