Established in 1909, the Bureau of Municipal Research of Philadelphia was the second private municipal research organization, after New York's Bureau of Municipal Research, created to employ Frederick Taylor's scientific management principals to improve urban life. In this pamphlet, the Bureau summarizes developments from the first year in seven areas of the City Planning Commission's 1948-1953 $357 million-dollar public improvement program. The seven areas are airports; public transit; highways and bridges; hospitals; water supply and distribution; and sewers, sewage collection, and treatment. Scarce.
