Chicago: News Map of the Week, 1940. Map. 1 map (35 x 47 inches), folded. The upper portion is a world map in color with 33 locations marked. The lower portion provides a description of an event at each marked location. Five black-and-white cartoons are located within the map and eight black-and-white illustrations (including 2 maps) are found with the descriptive text, and a row of photographs run at the lower edge representing important events of 1939. Among the events noted are: the University of Chicago's decision to end its football program; the beginning of monthly Social Security payments; it became illegal to bring into Cambridge, Mass., any book, magazine, or newspaper with the word "Lenin" in it; and Soviet efforts to conquer Finland moved slowly "principally because of the Olympic-like skill of ski and ice skate-mounted Finnish defenders." Interesting perspective from the United States on World War Two prior to the American entry into the war. In Very Good+ Condition: just starting to separate in several locations along folds; otherwise, clean and solid. Very Good +. Item #007337
