Dark blue-green cloth with gilt-stamped spine and cover titles. Top page edges gilt. Gift inscription on front free endpaper: "To Revd Mother Eler with Easter love from Lucy Wharton Drexel 1911." Bookplate on front fixed endpaper of Eden Hall; book pocket on back fixed endpaper of the Convent of the Sacred Heart Library, Eden Hall, Torresdale, Philadelphia, Pa. The Convent of the Sacred Heart was founded in the Torresdale, later part of Philadelphia, in 1847. Lucy Wharton Drexel (1841-1912) was the aunt of Katharine Drexel (1858-1955), who was canonized in 2000, the second American to be canonized a saint. Gertrude Jekyll was one of the most influential English landscape architects of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In this volume she comments on the gardens shown in the paintings by George S. Elgood. The captions indicate who owned the original art reproduced here. A heavy book; for international shipping, it will have to be sent by priority international.
