Philadelphia: Hogan & Thompson, 1851. Hardcover. 288 p., engraved frontispiece and added engraved title page; 14 cm. Contemporary red-brown cloth with criss-cross grain, double ruled borders, and blind-stamped center medallion reading "J. B. S. & Co." All page edges gilt. The frontispiece is an engraving of a country wedding, signed: "Miss L. Sharp del. J. I. Pease sculp." The added engraved title page has a title vignette of George Washington. Former owner's inscription on half title page: "W. S. Walters Washington City D.C." Circular stamp on half title and title pages and frontispiece verso: Wash. & Lynch R. P. O. Stamp of the Jones Memorial Library, Lynchburg, Va., on front fixed endpaper and title page, the former also stamped "Discarded." A guide to behavior for American men from the first half of the 19th century. In Good Condition: lacking cloth over spine; front board detached but present; lacking free endpapers; old dampstain at lower edge of frontispiece and added engraved title page; a few pencil marks in margins; otherwise, clean and solid.
